GROUND AERATING.
The benefits of aeration to grassed areas are:
-Decrees water usage (I am expecting around 20%. Studies in California produced results of 35% less water usage after aeration) as the soil will be loosened, water will be able to pernitrate further into the ground quicker reducing water evaporation, pooling and run off promoting deeper root growth.
-Allowing air to reach the grasses root system will produce healthier grass.
-Nutrients from fertilizers will reach the grass root area easier, be more available to the grass and have better take up of the nutrients.
-Aeration of sporting fields and ovals will not only increase grass quality but also softening of the ground that will help reduce sports injuries.
-Turf and grass quality will increase after aeration.
-This process would also benefit household lawns.
I would expect for most public grassed areas, aeration would be once per year, areas where large events are held or high traffic areas may require extra services.
As Water saving is a high priority to extend the life for Darwin’s water supply I see this process as not only giving better grass health and quality to parks, ovals, major street verges, public and private areas, but a substantial savings to water usage for those who use this service.
